  • National Cambodian Heritage Museum & Killing Fields Memorial 2831 West Lawrence Avenue Chicago, IL, 60625 (map)

April 17, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM (doors open at 3:30 PM)

PROGRAM

Greetings

Bangskol Ceremony

Within the memorial space is the Wall of Remembrance, which bears the names of victims of the Killing Fields. Our community elders will lead with a Bangskol ceremony, which includes:

Candlelighting Ceremony

Seven candles will be lit, symbolizing the seven days of the week during which lives were lost. Those joining virtually can participate by lighting a candle in their own space.

Moment of Silence

Immediately following the candlelighting, we will pause in silent reflection to honor and remember our lost loved ones.

Prayers and Chants

Buddhist monks will lead prayers and chants for healing and remembrance.

Ceramic Art Exhibition

Earlier this year, we hosted "Carving Legacies," a week-long ceramics workshop by Master Yary Livan. Participants from across the country created unique pieces under his guidance, and their completed works will be exhibited during the event.

Storytelling Panel Discussion

Community members will share personal experiences and reflections, offering insight into their journeys and the resilience of the Cambodian community.

Music Performance

Local musicians, led by resident artist Punisa Pov, will perform Cambodian songs to honor our heritage and culture.

Conclusion

We close the program with gratitude, reflection, and a collective commitment to remembrance and healing.
