Melody Sok
Board Member
Melody Kunthea Sok is a second-generation Cambodian American who lives in the Chicagoland area. She was previously a volunteer at the museum with fellow board member Phoebe Lincoln and two other extraordinary Cambodian American volunteers. Together they helped catalogue objects in the museum’s collection. The experience inspired them to begin the Cambodians in Chicago project, a temporary exhibit based on community photos from the late 1970s to the early 2000s.
Her proximity to the museum and participation in its cultural programs since childhood built her love for culture, community, history, and art. A dancer of the Tep Nimmit Dance Troupe, Melody has performed for various celebrations and festivities in Chicago. Melody’s interests are in healing, accessibility, exploring community history, and uplifting diverse voices and stories. As she embarks on this new chapter, she is eager to serve Cambodian communities within and outside Illinois alongside the board and staff of the National Cambodian Heritage Museum.
