BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Christina Pin-Balbuena is a second generation Cambodian-American born to refugees who settled in the Bronx, New York, in the early 1980’s. She was raised in northern New Jersey and has lived in Chicago for three years.
Christina is a public health professional and Certified Health Education Specialist with extensive experience in community health and health education. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and a Master of Public Health degree in Community Health Education. While working as a health educator in New York City, Christina provided individual health counseling and group health interventions to a diverse group, including patients from New York’s Cambodian community. Through those experiences, she began to advocate for health and wellness, especially among the elders of that community. In Chicago, Christina served as a program manager at the University of Chicago’s Center for Asian Health Equity for a colorectal cancer prevention program that sought to increase colorectal cancer screening rates at partnered federally qualified health centers. Currently, Christina provides training to clinical research personnel at Northwestern University. Inspired by her family’s stories of survival, perseverance, and success, she remained a passionate advocate for community health, health equity, disease prevention and management, and mental health awareness.
After moving to Chicago in 2020, Christina became involved with the National Cambodian Heritage Museum by enrolling in its Khmer music and language classes. She enjoys learning about Cambodia’s history and culture, art, dance, and music, as well as studying Khmer etymologies and the roots of the Khmer language.
