Acts of Memory Marks 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Phnom Penh with a Global Two-Day Event
Cambodians worldwide unite for remembrance, resilience, and cultural revival on April 17 & 26, 2025.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – On April 17 & 26, 2025, Cambodian Living Arts, in partnership with community leaders across Cambodia, Australia, France, the USA, Canada, and beyond will host Acts of Memory—a historic two-day hybrid event marking 50 years since the fall of Phnom Penh.
From solemn remembrance ceremonies to Khmer cultural celebrations, Acts of Memory offers a global platform for Cambodians to honor their past, share their stories, and celebrate their resilience through music, storytelling, and intergenerational dialogue.

Global Open Reflection Room – A virtual space for remembrance and personal reflection.
Hybrid Chicago Program – A two-hour event by The Cambodian American Heritage Museum & the Killing Fields Memorial, including storytelling, ceramic art presentations, and a Bangskol Ceremony (candle-lighting, moments of silence, and traditional chants).
Day 2: Inspiring the Next Chapter (April 26, 2025)
Cultural Celebrations in Phnom Penh, Sydney, Paris, Long Beach and Montreal – Each city hosts a one-hour hybrid event, passing the baton across time zones.
Diverse Programming – Events include historical discussions, artistic performances, and intergenerational storytelling.
Final Global Conversation – A visionary dialogue about Cambodia’s future 50 years from now.
"This is more than a commemoration—it's a global reunion, a celebration of survival, and a way to ensure our history is never forgotten," says Jean-Baptiste Phou, curator of Acts of Memory.
"In 2025, Cambodia’s story takes center stage as we reflect on its past and envision its future. Through art, culture, and community, we celebrate Cambodia’s resilience and creativity—hallmarks of an international renaissance,” says Jean-Baptiste Phou, curator of Acts of Memory.
